Hey folks, Meditation has wonderful benefits ranging from stress reduction and relaxation to enhancing psychic abilities. Some types of meditation...
Mindfulness Meditation - focusing on your physical experience and awareness
Breathing meditation - focusing on your breath or counting your breath
vipassana - silent meditation retreat
mantra meditation - repeating a word or chant
mandala meditation - focusing on an image
candle meditation - focusing on the light of a flame
zazen or emptiness meditation - allowing yourself to let go of the thoughts you have and any judgements about them
progressive muscle relaxation - releasing tension in your body
plant medicine meditation - consuming a medicinal substance to alter your consciousness and then observing what it offers you
shamanic journeying - via drumming or another trance induced altered state
visualization - imagining a scene in your mind
guided meditation - someone leads the meditation aloud
guidance meditation - meditating on a question, perhaps asking guides or ancestors for wisdom and insight
introspection meditation - inquiring about who you are and what that means to you
chakra meditation - working with the energy centers of the body to clear blockages
kundalini meditation - raising energy through the chakras up the body
qi gong - circulating energy throughout the body
grounding meditation - allowing excess energy to flow down the body and out into the earth where it can be transmuted
metta - loving kindness meditation - sending love, acceptance and compassion to self and other/all beings.
effortless presence, or being - simply experiencing existence
yoga - stretching the body in asanas/postures
internal alchemy - self-transformation (usually Daoist techniques)
contemplative reading - thinking deeply about teachings from a text
rosary or prayer beads - repeating a sequence of prayers using a sacred string of beads to guide you
daily devotionals - returning to an altar or shrine regularly to contemplate the images, items and tools while making offerings or otherwise building relationship to the divine.
divination - contemplating the images, signs or symbols that have come up in a reading.
laughter yoga - intentional laughter with a group
walking meditation - carefully and mindfully stepping
free form dancing - trance consciousness using music and movement as the focus
and finally,
anything can be a meditation if you do it with focus.
