Things to keep in mind for contemplation:
What is spiritual or not about these traditions?
How can we create meaning if there is none for us here?
How can we give ourselves purposeful activity in preparation for winter?
What can we do to connect with folks as the weather changes?
What do we carry into the winter months to keep us going, (stories? crafts?)
Autumn Equinox - days and nights are equal in length with nights getting longer
Diwali - festival of lights (India)
Thanksgiving - gratitude feast for abundance
Last Harvest - reaping what we have sewn this year
Feast days - St. Francis of Assisi
Samhain - thinning of the veil and new year for Pagans
Oktoberfest - cultural festival (Germany)
Dia de los muertos - day of the dead, feast of the ancestors (Mexico)
Advent or nativity fast - preparing for Christmas
Hunting and Gathering - apple picking, pine cones, acorns, etc
seasonal foods - Turkey, Ciders, pumpkin spice everything, breads, squash, candy apples, etc
Seasonal crafts - Corn dollies, horns of plenty, pumpkin carving, baking
Commercial holidays - candy at Hallowe'en - Black Friday, Cyber Monday
Other fun fall activities - bonfires, corn mazes, halloween costumes, horror movies, ghost stories, leaf piles...
What would you add to this list?
What would you expand upon?
As always, I am here if you want to explore this part of your path.
