Day ONE!
So, the first challenge was:
Day 1: Handle a tool that you rarely use, for example a wand with a specific purpose.
I chose to handle a wand that I made over a decade ago, and touched up last year. It's a copper and quarts wand, very basic but very useful for focus and clarity. I unsheathed the wand from it's case. Then I held the wand, and examined it. For the next few moments, I stood at my altar, with my eyes closed, breathing, just being with it. And I opened my eyes, looked over at my chalice, and thought to myself... This wand would do a world of good, laid across the top of my chalice. What kind of work would that be, laying a wand on top of a chalice?
Well, in my personal elemental correspondence system, the cup is the tool for the power of water. It is the vessel from which we pour out for others, and the vessel into which nurture and sustenance is received. It's a tool for channeling emotions and intuitions. It's a gate to the ancestors and it's a well of wisdom. Sometimes it's the Dagda's cauldron the Undry, feeding many and yet never empty. Sometimes it's the cauldron of Cerridwen, holding the Awen, source of poetic inspiration. Sometimes it is the container of the energies of earth and sky power, pooling in the head, in the heart, or in the loins. And sometimes it is a celebratory toast to many blessings. It is the container from which I pour libations and offer to the gods, spirits and ancestors.
Similarly, the wand is a magical tool for focusing the power of air. To me, it is intellect, communication and transportation. It is the pen that is mightier than the sword. It is the winds of change and the whirlwind of busyness. It is the philosophical talking stick that honours the power of listening and allows for clarity to emerge. And yet sometimes it is the judge's gavel, bringing justice. It is the conductor's baton directing the musical instruments that bring us storytelling and dance. It is the walking staff taken up by pilgrims on their journeys (inner and outer). It is also the antenna I send out to transmit and receive psychically. It is a reminder for breathwork.
So, for me to lay my wand over my chalice, it is a way of tempering the realm of water with the power of air... A way to both cool the brew of emotions, while making waves that ensure my growth does not go stagnant. It is a way to pair intuition with the clarity of vision, and power of attention.
So in a way, I handled two tools on day one, however, I really think that there is an important message here for me in the work that I am doing. Keep moving, the wand says... go deeper, the chalice says.
