A Good Ancestor
Jan 3, 2019
Children of the Earth,
Children of my Friends,
Children of my Family,
When I pass into the spirit world,
I want to be a good ancestor
to humanity.
For now,
I am preparing for my work
On the other side.
When I have gone away,
Cut a lock of my hair, to keep
with some nail clippings in a locket,
And adorn the neck of some wise loved one.
I want to journey far, far, from Earth,
and to carry with me a cord
that will tug at my spirit to return
When I am called on by those
with good intentions in their hearts.
Let me whisper wisdom in their ears
and bring memories they can smell,
cravings they can't explain
until they reach toward their inner yearnings,
Let me laugh with them in dreams,
and show them mysteries.
Let me speak through them to those in need.
My friends, my adventuring companions,
I am your ally, if you walk in virtue.
Don't let me melt away
into unitive dissolution,
so soon.
My time will come to be forgotten and move on.
The universe is long and our lives are short.
Let me be a good ancestor
to the future generations,
Let me remind them of
what they are already aware of deeply,
feeling it in their bones,
and in their subtle knowing.
Let me warm the creativity of your children,
as I drift through the otherworld,
collecting souvenirs
and stories.
Let me be a good ancestor to the ones
Who seek for belonging, but were never mine.
Let me be a good ancestor to the ones
Who seek for teachings, but were not born to mentors.
Let me be a good ancestor to those lost,
Who only need encouragement, permission and a nudge.
Let me tap on their auras,
let me swirl their chakras open,
Let me kiss them with vision.
I don't want to be a parent.
I don't want to be a portal to Earth.
There are many already, and they excel at that work.
Instead, I want to be a good ancestor,
When I retire from a full life here,
A life of learning how to navigate the other side,
So that when I arrive on that distant plane,
I will be equipped to
cross the veils
and return for a while,
here and there,
bringing love and insight,
and bestowing blessings
on people like me,
who wish to grow their spirits into
good ancestors...
Welcome me back with incense, to feed my spirit,
Invite me in with drumming, with dance and with a sacred fire.
I will wait for your call.
I will show you signs in the clouds and in the leaves blowing.
I will teach you rhythms and awaken your dormant senses
I will be present, if you say my name with love on your lips.
Access my gifts, and nurture your own.
I don't ask to be revered, I don't ask to be worshipped,
I only ask that you help me to some day
Become a good ancestor.
